The Japanese translation of the Gold-MSI: Adaptation and validation of the self-report questionnaire of musical sophistication

This study presents a Japanese translation of the Goldsmiths Musical Sophistication Index (Gold-MSI). The index consists 38 self-report questions and provides general sophistication score as well subscale scores for Active Engagement, Perceptual Abilities, Training, Singing Emotions. validation with 689 native speakers indicated excellent internal consistency test–retest reliability. Confirmatory factor analysis revealed that bifactor model structure formulated by original Gold-MSI is maintained reasonably in our data. strengths inventory are (1) it offers multifaceted view musical sophistication, (2) subset five subscales can be used to measure different aspects independently, (3) ease administration questionnaire. In fact this its translations increasingly contribute research on expertise, skills, abilities, having may enhance future these areas even further.
